We all know it is the bride who is the centre of attention on her big day. But we also know it is the bridesmaids that make her day extra special. And that means when choosing the bridesmaids’ dresses, we look for that elusive combination of style and comfort.
To begin with – the colour. If the bridesmaids’ dresses are the same colour make sure it suits all the girls. If you are going for different colours for the dresses – make sure the colours don’t clash and complement each other. Done.
The style of the dress should be in keeping with the theme and aesthetics of the wedding. If you are having a church wedding you would expect something more formal, while if you have opted for a beach wedding the bridesmaids’ dresses would be light and flowy. Sorted.
After choosing the style of the dresses it’s time to take the bridesmaids’ measurements to make sure you get the correct size. Firstly – when taking measurements wear the bra/shapewear you will be wearing on the day. Also, if you are concerned about the length of the dress – when taking your measurements, wear shoes of similar height you will be wearing on the day.
Measurements to take
Bust - measure around your back and under your armpits before meeting at the fullest part of your bust.
Waist – your waist is the narrowest part of your torso, a couple of inches above the belly button. Wrap the tape measure around it – make sure you don’t do it on top of any clothing.
Hips – stand with your feet together. Wrap the tape measure around the fullest part of your hips and make sure the tape measure is level.
Hollow-to-hem – make sure to be wearing the shoes (or shoes of similar height) you will be wearing on the day. Stand up straight and measure from the hollow area between your collarbones to the floor.
