Crisp mornings, back to school, pumpkin spice-flavoured everything. Yes, autumn is almost here and we have started putting our summer clothes (and holiday vibes) away.
Sandals are slowly disappearing from your wardrobe and are replaced by tights and boots. We are also back to layering. We might have a few warm days left ahead but the bottom line is clear: summer is over.
We have come up with a few picks and tips that will help you create a stylish wardrobe to carry you through the transition into autumn and all the way to winter - whether it is for work, leisure or a special occasion. Check out the autumnal colours that are in this season: the reds and greys, the pinks and creams, and of course – the never-out-of-fashion black. You can mix and match our picks and they will take you everywhere.
The Cardigan
As we mentioned – layers are back. And what more stylish way to do it than with a cardigan. Here you can play with the length, the colour and even the small details like ruffles, buttons and zips. Cardigans are known as a very handy piece of clothing to have as with the right blouse or t-shirt you can wear them in the office or for a school run.
The Dress
We’ve all seen the colours of the dresses getting less vibrant – shades of purple, cobalt and green are very much in this season. Our tip would be to invest in a versatile dress, which you can dress up or down depending on the occasion. There are so many styles and materials to choose from: chiffon, lace, mesh, dresses with scallop detail, plisse dresses, tiered dresses, dresses with short or long sleeves. Having a multifunctional dress (or two) as a wardrobe staple is a must, regardless of the season.
The Gilet
There aren’t a lot of us who haven’t owned a gilet at some point. It is such an easy garment with which to make a fashion statement and it is an iconic piece that adds a touch of sophistication to an everyday outfit. The best part: our gilets start from only €34.99.
A few tips for wearing a gilet: pair it with slim or skinny jeans to balance out its volume; if you want to avoid a shapeless silhouette, go for a gilet that is cinched in the waist; pair the gilet with tailored trousers and heels for a polished look.
The Trousers
When it comes to autumn and trousers we are truly spoilt for choice. So many styles, materials and colours to choose from. You can go for baggy or fitted jeans, tailored trousers or joggers and you might be surprised of the unexpected combinations you can get with leggings. Joggers are always a fashion favourite and this season they come with zip and satin lace details and in our favourite camouflage print. Our top tip would be to know what style suits you but not to be afraid to try different combinations.
The Outerwear/Coat
Short or long, tailored or trench coat – once again the choices are many. If you want something dressy, you could go for a tailored coat or a fitted jacket. For a more casual occasion you can go for a leather biker jacket, a longline suedette coat or a camo hoodie. This season the focus is on materials like suedette, faux leather, bouclé.
Once again, you can dress the outfit up or down: go with tailored trousers and heels for an elevated look or with fancy joggers and platform trainers for an everyday vibe.
And to finish it off – the shoes
As we already mentioned – the tights are now back in our wardrobe. That also means that the boots and heavier shoes are back and when it comes to style and colour we are truly spoilt for choice.
Roll up your skinny jeans and pair them with ankle boots; put on a knee-length dress and your favourite boots or loafers; or get into your leggings and your trainers.
Some of the footwear trends this season include platforms, zips, buckles and straps. And don’t forget the designer inspired faux fur lined slip ons and platforms, which are already one of the stars of the season.
Autumn, ready when you are.
